Chief Operations Officer
The Monument Quilt

A Strong Candidate must:

  • Have experience managing volunteers and/or staff.
  • Have experience writing grants.
  • Work well independently, be self-driven.
  • Have experience working on the issues of sexual and domestic violence.
  • Be responsible, flexible, hard‐working, ethical, and committed to the mission of The Monument Quilt and Force: Upsetting Rape Culture.
  • Possess a high level of organizational skills and be detail oriented.
  • Be able to juggle multiple tasks.

The main role of the chief operations officer will be to work with FORCE staff, leadership team and volunteers to manage Monument Quilt programs, with an emphasis on communications, fundraising and outreach.  The COO will…

  • Work with existing volunteers to ensure regular social media and email communication with FORCE supporters.
  • Design, manage and execute project-specific communications campaigns.
  • Work with Monument Quilt partners and Monument Quilt leaders to plan and implement campaigns and events including Quilt tours, displays and issue-specific campaigns. Examples of past campaigns include Shame on Dollar General campaign and NOT ALONE Baltimore campaign.
  • Help the Monument Quilt continue to grow by outreach to new partners and potential quilt participants, with an emphasis on the voices of survivors who are typically left out of the mainstream narrative about sexual violence.
  • Write grants to support the ongoing work of the Monument Quilt, including researching funding opportunities, building relationships with funders and grant reporting.
  • Manage and update individual donor database.
  • Manage donor appreciation and cultivation communications and events.
  • Manage annual Monument Quilt online fundraising campaigns
  • Attend weekly staff meetings in Baltimore, MD.
  • Work with members of the leadership team on the communications, fundraising and outreach teams to include them in project planning and implementation.
  • Work with existing FORCE staff.
  • Participate in bi-annual visioning and strategy processes with FORCE staff and leadership team.

FORCE: Upsetting Rape Culture is an art and activist effort to upset the culture of rape and promote a counter-culture of consent.  FORCE creates public art actions to disrupt the mainstream narrative of sexual violence and get millions of people talking.  Our largest project to-date is the Monument Quilt, an on-going collection of stories from survivors of rape and abuse. Having collected over 1500 stores and toured 26 different US cities and towns, the Monument Quilt is building a new culture where survivors are publicly supported, not shamed.  FORCE is based in Baltimore, MD at 120 W North Ave.

This is a full-time position based in Baltimore, MD.  This position includes health benefits.  Compensation is commensurate with experience.
